Ohio’s open primary elections are our best defense against polarized politicians proliferating in both parties. Predictably, that’s problematic to Republican party zealots who want to end the current system and enhance the power of party bosses.
Currently, registered voters simply ask for the party ballot of their choice or select a nonpartisan ballot at the primary election polling place.
State Rep. Gary Click, (R., Vickery) has introduced legislation to require a partisan declaration within 90 days of the primary to participate in the selection of candidates.
Surprisingly, the Sandusky County GOP stalwart cites a 2008 Rush Limbaugh-inspired strategy to infiltrate the Democratic Party presidential primaries as the reason for his proposed legislation.
Much more likely the “operation ch
