Update: FBI releases person detained in Charlie Kirk shooting investigation

Four hours after Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at a speaking engagement in Utah as part of a tour of college campuses, FBI officials announced a suspect had been arrested.

FBI Director Kash Patel posted on social media at 6:21 p.m.: “The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody. Thank you to the local and state authorities in Utah for your partnership with the FBI. We will provide updates when able.”

This update came after news widely circulated of a different man being arrested by police, and school officials announcing that man was not the shooter.
