Amy Dowden has spoken out after losing her National Television Awards (NTA) category to Molly-Mae Hague. Many NTA viewers took to social media to voice their outrage on Wednesday night after the former Love Island star won the Authored Documentary prize for her series, Molly-Mae: Behind It All, instead of Strictly star Amy and late rugby league player Rob Burrow. Amy, who was nominated for her breast cancer documentary, Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, responded to the news by congratulating Molly-Mae on her victory in a statement. "Huge congratulations to Molly Mae on your NTA win! It's been an honour to be nominated alongside such powerful and inspiring documentaries," she wrote on Instagram. "I'm incredibly proud to have been nominated for my documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me. When I made the deeply personal decision to share my breast cancer journey, it was to raise awareness, promote early detection, and give hope and strength to others going through it." Adding that the nomination was simply the "icing on the cake", the Welsh dancer thanked everyone who voted for and supported her documentary "from the bottom of my heart". "Your messages, love, and encouragement mean the world to me," she concluded. "I promise to keep using my voice to raise awareness, support others, and shine a light on the reality of breast cancer." Molly-Mae's show also beat Boyzone: No Matter What, Flintoff, about Freddie Flintoff's recovery after a serious car accident, and There's Only One Rob Burrow, about the sportsman's battle with motor neurone disease before his death in June last year. The reality star dedicated the award to Rob in her acceptance speech, saying, "To Lindsey, Rob Burrow's wife and his children, his story was far more inspirational than mine could ever be. It was just incredible and touched me in more ways than I can explain. This one's for you Rob, and to the other inspirational people in this category." The night's big winners were Adolescence, which won New Drama and Drama Performance for its teenage breakout star Owen Cooper, and EastEnders, which won Serial Drama and Serial Drama Performance for Steve McFadden. In a major upset, Gary Lineker broke Ant and Dec's 23-year winning streak by scooping the TV Presenter prize. The 2025 NTAs were hosted by Joel Dommett at London's O2 Arena.
