NEWBURGH — Several days after a chemical fire at a Newburgh manufacturing facility rained caustic ash down on surrounding communities, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency continues to coordinate clean-up efforts and to conduct assessments, primarily pertaining to the ash, while officials assure residents that air quality and drinking water remain safe.

In its latest update, the EPA said extensive surveys detected no ash at Warrick County's public schools, and the agency on Tuesday cleared the Warrick County School Corp. to resume outdoor activities, which were cancelled Monday.
