COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Attorneys for disbarred Hampton County lawyer and convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh are once again trying to get his double-murder sentence overturned.

Murdaugh was found guilty of killing his wife, Margaret, and his youngest son, Paul, at their family home in June 2021.

In a brief filed this week with the South Carolina Supreme Court, Murdaugh’s attorneys argue that the conviction came after several missteps in the trial, which they said prejudiced the jury. They believe law enforcement acted improperly from the start: failing to secure the crime scene and contaminating potential evidence.
