Construction on a new hangar at the Cape May County Airport could begin in March, even as the airport operations could soon change hands.
The total project could cost more than $7 million, potentially supported by a $2 million federal grant.
Cape May County’s Board of Commissioners on Tuesday unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with the Delaware River and Bay Authority, the bi-state agency that operates the airport under a long-term lease.
The county has given the DRBA notice that it would not renew that lease when it expires in June 2029. Part of the agreement approved Tuesday includes the county repaying the DRBA’s cost for the public use hangar building.
