WASHINGTON — Authorities are still searching for a suspect a day after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was killed while speaking at an event in what Utah's governor called a "political assassination" on Wednesday.

At a press conference Thursday morning, officials with the Utah Department of Public Safety and the FBI confirmed that the suspected weapon used to kill Kirk was recovered from the woods near Utah Valley University, where he was speaking.

Officials also released new details about the shooter, saying he appeared to be a man in his late teens or early 20s.

"(The) suspect blended in well with a college institution," FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls said. "(He) appeared to be of college age."
