CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 3-year-old shorthair Persian cat named Pudge has become the most famous feline in sports, capturing hearts at Bowling Green State University and beyond.

What began as a simple gesture to lift spirits has transformed into a national sensation. In mid-August, after a Bowling Green player suffered a knee injury, long snapper George Carlson brought his cat Pudge to the locker room to cheer up his teammates.

“He’s pretty good,” Carlson said per the Spokesman-Review of Pudge’s adjustment to fame . “He loves all the pets.”

The cat’s popularity exploded when Finn Hogan, a Bowling Green receiver with 193,000 TikTok followers, introduced Pudge to social media .

“Y’all might have a 300 million dollar facility,” Hogan wrote, “But do you have a locker room cat?”
