EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Legislation was introduced on Wednesday to rename a section of Grand River Avenue in downtown East Lansing in honor of Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson.

State Representative Kathy Schmaltz and Senator Michael Webber introduced the bill to recognize the Spartan legend’s impactful tenure at Michigan State University.

The proposal would rename the stretch of Grand River Avenue (M-43) from North Harrison Road to Hagadorn Road as ‘Magic Johnson Way.’

“Renaming the most traveled road through downtown East Lansing only further adds to his legacy and helps ensure he is forever remembered for his contributions to the university, the community, and the athletics program,” said Rep. Schmaltz.
