New Jersey elected officials offered their condolences and condemned the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday evening.
The 31-year-old conservative activist was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday afternoon. Officials later confirmed that he was in critical condition before President Trump announced that Kirk had died shortly after 4:30 p.m.
The father-of-two was a prominent voice among young conservatives. His non-profit organization, Turning Point USA, advocated for conservative politics in high schools and on college campuses.
The FBI is still working to identify a suspect. A person was in custody earlier on Wednesday evening, but was later released.
