STILLWATER, Minn. — It seems the cost of everything is going up, and Minnesota's largest power provider is among those hoping to collect more.
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has scheduled a public hearing for Monday, Sept. 15, at the Washington County Heritage Center in Stillwater, to discuss a proposed rate increase by Xcel Energy. Xcel is proposing a 9.6% increase ($353.3 million) for 2025, and an additional (3.6% ($137.5 million) (3.6%) for 2026.
Altogether, the company is seeking a total rate increase of 13.2% ($490.7 million) over two years.
PUC commissioners earlier approved an interim rate increase of 5.2% ($192 million) for both residential and business customers that kicked in on January 1, 2025, while the full requested increase is studied and considered.
