The sports and games had already gotten started, but now the torch has been lit, too, welcoming one and all to the 55-Plus B.C. Games in Nanaimo.
The opening ceremony for the games was held Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Serauxmen Stadium, and participants from every zone filled the stands to see and hear drumming, music, dance, speeches, and the torch lighting in the ballpark's infield.
Diana Johnstone, president of the host committee, said Nanaimo is thrilled to welcome the many happy, healthy British Columbians who have gathered for the games.
"The 55-Plus B.C. Games are a symbol of what it means to be active in mind and body and there will be the most tremendous competition this week," she said. "Enjoy every minute, play your best, make new friends and be sure to try one of our famous Nana
