A Chatham veteran’s gesture of support and admiration for how Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy handled a clash with U.S. President Donald Trump during a visit to the White House earlier this year has been acknowledged.

In March, Cecil Snow, 90, a 25-year veteran of Royal Canadian Air Force, travelled to the Consulate General of Ukraine in Toronto to gift his NATO Special Services Medal, to the Ukrainian president after seeing how Zelenskyy handled a confrontation with Trump and U.S. Vice-President JD Vance during an Oval Office meeting at the end of February that was televised.

“For (Zelenskyy) to be able to . . . take that kind of abuse, I thought it was worthy of a medal, so I gave him mine,” Snow told The Chatham Daily News in a previous interview.
