NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - President Trump’s administration has drafted a plan to deploy 1,000 Louisiana National Guard troops to assist with law enforcement in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and other “urban centers” in the state if requested by Republican Gov. Jeff Landry, the Washington Post reported Saturday (Sept. 13).
The report was based on Pentagon planning documents obtained by the newspaper. The Pentagon verified the documents’ authenticity to the Post, but declined to comment on them other than to say, “Leaked documents should not be interpreted as policy.”
Landry’s office has not commented on the report, nor said whether the governor has requested the troop deployment from Trump. But when Trump first floated the idea of staging troops in New Orleans on Sept. 3, Landry issued a statement
