Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Sushila Karki , who was sworn in as the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal. The Himalayan nation was affected by violent anti-corruption protests over the past one week leading to the resignation of Prime Minister K.P Sharma Oli.

Addressing a public gathering at Imphal in Manipur, Mr. Modi said that from the soil of Manipur, he wishes to address his friends in Nepal.

He remarked that Nepal, nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, is a close friend and trusted partner of India.
