Detroit — Dressed in pink clothes, carrying signs and even donning pink tutus, hundreds gathered at William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor Saturday morning for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a event dedicated to raising awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer.

Organizers said more than 1,800 people officially registered for the race, but with volunteers and walk-up participants, the crowd likely grew to 2,100–2,200. So far, the event has raised more than $280,000 toward this year’s $350,000 goal, with fundraising open for another 30 days.

The event, which included a 5K race and 1-mile route, drew a mix of people Saturday touched by breast cancer.
