MCCAYSVILLE, Ga. — A McCaysville police captain was seriously hurt after being shot late Friday while responding to a call for service at a home in the area, according to local authorities.

In a Facebook post Saturday morning, the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office identified the officer as Captain Brantley Worley. He remains hospitalized in critical condition.

“We stand in full support of the McCaysville Police Department, Captain Worley, his family, and his children during this extremely difficult time,” the sheriff's office wrote.

The shooting happened sometime late Friday night on King Town Street. Officials have not yet released the circumstances surrounding the call Captain Worley was responding to.
