More than 1,700 pubs, eateries and hotels have closed this year, new Government data shows.
This equates to the loss of around 65 much-loved locals per week - or about nine closures a day. Over 300 insolvencies were recorded in June this year alone - official figures reveal - up from 296 in May.
In total, 1,706 inns and restaurants disappeared from our towns, cities and villages in the first six months of 2025, according to analysis of official figures by business recovery firm Buchler Phillips.
