TODAY's Craig Melvin stepped in to help the Harlem Globetrotters break a Guinness World Record live on air!

Craig joined the legendary basketball team as they attempted to break the record for longest relay passing a spinning basketball with one continuous spin on the TODAY Plaza on Sept. 12.

To break the record, the Globetrotters needed to pass a spinning basketball on their finger from one player to another, with a minimum of six people.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric joined the team on the plaza and went over the rules for the attempt.

"So the Globetrotters are attempting to break the Guinness World Records title for longest relay passing a spinning basketball," Empric said.
