At least 25 people were injured, three seriously, in an explosion in a café in Madrid on Saturday.

The explosion occurred around 1500 local time (1300 GMT) in the Puente de Vallecas neighborhood of the Spanish capital.

The explosion caused damage to much of the three-storey building where the establishment was located.

Eighteen fire crews responded to the scene and are still working to clear the rubble.

The exact cause of the blast was still being investigated but firefighters said they suspected a gas leak.
