A woman was struck and killed while crossing a street in Long Beach on Friday afternoon, Sept. 12, police said, and a driver was arrested after returning to the scene about 40 minutes later.
The collision happened around 12:15 p.m. as the woman was in the crosswalk at Long Beach Boulevard and 68th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department. She was hit by a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro traveling southbound in the far-right lane. She was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries.
Police said the vehicle initially fled the scene but returned about 40 minutes later. The 65-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
