Friends and family members of victims of impaired driving came together in Brampton Saturday for an solemn ceremony where six new names were added to an Ontario memorial that honours victims of crashes involving alcohol.

The annual memorial, held by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), invites victims' friends and family who have lost loved ones to gather around the monument in Chinguacousy Park.

"While we cannot erase the pain, we stand together in our grief," said MADD Canada Chief Operating Officer Dawn Regan at Saturday's ceremony.

Built in 2023, the monument is now engraved with the names of 164 Ontarians.

One of the names added to the monument Saturday was 22-year-old Cole Hodge, whose mother Aletha Brown was there for the ceremony.

"It's heartbreaking to see it," Brown said. "
