A jury found a Douglas County woman guilty Friday in the 2022 death of her son from a fentanyl overdose.

Investigators discovered that the apartment shared by Hanna and her boyfriend — Jacob Birkbeck, who was also the child’s father — was full of illegal substances, including cocaine and fentanyl, according to the release. Prosecutors alleged that Layton crawled onto the floor and accidentally ingested some of the fentanyl, which eventually led to his death.
