GRAND FORKS — Dustin McNally, a 2024 state Senate candidate, has been selected to fill a House seat in Grand Forks' District 42 left vacant by Rep. Emily O'Brien's recent resignation.

The appointment was made by vote during a special meeting Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13, at the Alerus Center.

There were 37 dues-paying members of the District 42 Republican Party present, and they were asked to choose between McNally, Veronica Hanson and Connie Osowski. Mary Ann Sens, previously on the ballet, rescinded her candidacy during the meeting.

In the first round, Hanson received two votes, Osowski 17 and McNally 18. The candidate with the lowest number of votes was removed from the ballet and members voted for a second time.
