YUMA, AZ (AZFamily) — Officials are investigating after a threatening package was left outside a Yuma jail on Friday.
During a routine perimeter check of the Yuma County Detention Center around 5:30 p.m., YCSO deputies found a suspicious package. Officials say the package looked similar to an explosive device. It was secured with duct tape and had handwritten threats on it. The package was also staked to the ground near an electrical box.
A safety perimeter was quickly established, and the bomb squad was called in to take charge of the investigation. An X-ray showed the package had items inside that are similar to things used to make bombs. That’s when the bomb squad performed a controlled detonation to neutralize the threat.
