PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- A person was hospitalized after two personal watercraft collided on the Illinois River.

Crews with the Peoria Fire Department were called at 4:17 p.m. on Saturday to the river to a report of an injured person in the water, said Battalion Chief Josh Maroney.

When they arrived, they launched onto the water at the closest location on land before being directed to the site of the collision, he said.

Once there, they found one person was injured, but conscious and holding onto a watercraft, he said.

Two firefighters put on "gumby suits," meant to keep the wearer warm and dry in water, and extracted the person out of the water, Maroney said.

The person was taken to Peoria Harbor Marina, where they were put in an ambulance and taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center
