STEVENS POINT − A 6-year-old Portage County girl officials had been searching for since she disappeared with her uncle the afternoon of Sept. 11 has been found safe.
At 5:50 p.m. Sept. 13, a notice went out that the Amber Alert for the Almond girl had been canceled. The alert said the 6-year-old girl was safe and her uncle had been taken into custody.
Officers received information on Sept. 12 that the girl and her uncle, who was known to have taken her from her grandmother's home, were still in the south Portage County area, Portage County Sheriff Mike Lukas told a Stevens Point Journal reporter.
