FAIRVIEW PARK, Ohio - Fairview Park City Council President Michael Kilbane abruptly resigned Saturday morning after a social media comment he made about conservative activist Charlie Kirk drew sharp criticism and unwanted attention to the city.
In a resignation letter addressed to Mayor Bill Schneider and Council members, Kilbane said the controversy surrounding his remark had overshadowed his work and the city’s reputation.
“Due to the negative attention a comment that I made on a social media post has brought to the city, I am hereby resigning my position as City Council president, effective immediately,” Kilbane wrote in his statement.
“I am sorry to the residents, my neighbors and to my colleagues for everything you’ve had to endure as a result of my comment. I apologize profusely
