KATHMANDU, Nepal — Travelers are being urged to reconsider trips to Nepal following violent protests that erupted in major cities, causing deaths, injuries and emergency curfews, the U.S. Department of State announced this week .

The department issued a Level 3 travel advisory after demonstrations in the country’s largest urban centers turned violent Monday and Tuesday. Several hotels were set on fire, and authorities have imposed curfews that could be extended with little warning.

Emergency services are strained, and response times may be delayed, the advisory said. U.S. officials cautioned that their ability to provide emergency assistance is limited.
