SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — A youth football coach has been arrested by South Fulton Police on a felony charge of cruelty to children after officers say he intentionally slammed a player into the ground during practice at Old National Field on Monday night.

The boy was airlifted to Grady Hospital and later released.

The police report states that Jonathan Richard Sagers grabbed the 12-year-old boy with both hands on the front area of his shoulder pads, picked him up and slammed him into the ground.

Witnesses told police the coach and player got into an argument, the player walked away, and Sagers threw him to the ground. Those witnesses also told police the young boy lost consciousness as a result of the impact. Warrants show Sagers slammed the 12-year-old into the ground at Old National Pa
