COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - A peaceful protest was held at the SC Statehouse this Saturday afternoon in memory of Charlie Kirk and Iryna Zarutskaya and to demand justice and systemic change.
Dozens of citizens gathered with signs. Congressman Joe Wilson also made an appearance at the event.
“This is a free country where we can openly debate, and it just shouldn’t be that way at all, said event organizer Dylan Ray. ”Seeing the assassination first in my lifetime of any kind of national political figure, it’s just very heart-wrenching to see. And I wanted to turn that mourning and righteous anger into action today.”
The event was themed “Never Again,” and it was aimed to address hate crimes and political violence while calling for actionable reforms.
