Edwin S. Kleparek of Berkey, Ohio, a retired engineer and educator who was an Army veteran of the Korean War era, died Aug. 31 at the Grove at Oakleaf Village of Sylvania. He was 96.
He died in his sleep of heart failure, his son Tim Kleparek said.
The elder Mr. Kleparek retired from O-I Glass, then known as Owens-Illinois, in 1987 after 30 years as an electrical engineer at the company’s former technical center on Westwood Avenue.
He then was an electrical engineer at Finkbeiner, Pettis & Strout, a Toledo consulting engineering firm, from 1987 until retiring permanently in 2004.
“Dad liked designing things,” Tim Kleparek said. “He was a devoted professional. And he was a people’s person and a family man.”
“He always promoted education and encouraged people to go get another degree,”
