It had been a long time coming for Kristoffer Velde and Matias Rojas .

In the month since the two signed with the Portland Timbers , the pair has played in a couple of games, they’ve grown accustomed to their new teammates and, in Velde’s case, taken care of a few things off the pitch — the 26-year-old from Norway got engaged during MLS’ international break.

“Took me five years,” Velde said. “It was about time.”

By Saturday, it was about time for the pair to play in their new home. Since the Timbers haven’t played at Providence Park in more than a month, Saturday was the pair’s first time being introduced in the starting lineup, their first time hearing the chainsaw rev up and their first time basking in the ovation from the Timbers supporters after playing a part in victory.
