LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - A Michigan City firefighter died in a single-vehicle crash late Friday night in LaPorte County.

It happened around 10:15 p.m. in the 5700 block of W. Schultz Road.

According to police, 32-year-old Richard Nagy of LaPorte was heading east in a Chevrolet Corvette when he went off the road, hit two trees, a guy wire attached to a utility pole and a wooden fence.

The Corvette then reportedly burst into flames after coming to rest in a corn field.

Nagy died at the scene. The Michigan City Fire Department says he had served the department since 2022.

The department says funeral and memorial arrangements will be shared once they are finalized.
