IOWA CITY — Iowa capped off its non-conference schedule with a 47-7 beatdown of UMass in Kinnick Stadium on Saturday.

The Hawkeyes (2-1, 0-0 Big Ten) made a statement ahead of Big Ten play, holding the Minutemen (0-3, 0-0 Mid-American) to 119 yards while erupting for 435 yards of total offense in the win.

“(I’m) really pleased with the effort of our team,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said. “I was pleased with the week. I thought our guys got back on their feet starting last Sunday. I thought the effort was good during the week, as far as our preparation, that type of thing. Guys showed up tonight, and I thought they were ready to go. We made improvement, no question about that.”
