Muskellunge fishermen faced tough conditions over the first few days of June 2025 on the Door County waters of Green Bay.
But June 4 dawned differently. The sky was overcast, the wind was light and, to put icing on the anglers' cake, the morning featured a favorable moon phase, too.
Jeff Van Remortel, a fishing guide from Hazelhurst, Wisconsin, motored out that morning with a heightened sense of optimism. He was joined by Mike Jacoby, a regular client and avid musky angler who hails from Illinois.
The two men have had great success fishing on Green Bay over the years, including a day when they hooked 14 muskies and landed 10.
They'd soon find out this day would provide another epic musky memory, but of a different proportion.
