The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 6:16 a.m. on Sunday for dense fog until 9 a.m. for Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.

"Patches of dense fog have developed across parts of the Lower Hudson Valley and interior Southern Connecticut this morning, especially along river valleys. Visibilities within the dense fog will be reduced to a quarter mile or less. This fog is expected to persist before 8 a.m. and then decrease with daytime heating between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Motorists within these locations this morning should proceed with extra caution and be prepared for rapid changes in visibility. Use low beam headlights and allow for extra space between vehicles," says the weather service.
