The immigration raid that took place earlier this month at a protein bar manufacturing plant in the Cayuga County community of Cato is a prime example of everything wrong with immigration policy under the administration of President Donald Trump.

The raid and its aftermath were a mix of misinformation, incompetence, secrecy and cruelty.

Trump and others in his administration have repeatedly argued that their campaign of deportations is targeting “the worst of the worst,” meaning dangerous criminals.

Agents told the Cato plant’s owners they were looking for a violent felon , but there was no such person there. In addition, the search warrant used in the raid was administrative, not criminal. That means it required less proof and lawyers have said the way it was used was unlawful.
