It’s the AFL’s equivalent of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray reaching the semi-finals of a grand slam.

This preliminary final weekend contains the three past premiers, the Brisbane Lions, Collingwood and Geelong and the team, Hawthorn, that just keeps coming.

The four clubs have won 11 of the past 18 flags. They have taken 17 of the past 36 grand final spots (counting the 2010 grand finals once).

Only four of the past 18 grand finals have not had one of these four teams competing.

Of the 92 players who’ve represented these clubs in a finals win this year, 58 have already played in a preliminary final, 55 of them players coming from Geelong, the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood.
