Oblique Seville has regained global sprint supremacy for Jamaica, upstaging countryman Kishane Thompson in a 1-2 finish in the men's 100m at the world championships.

Having missed out on Olympic gold in Paris last year to American Noah Lyles by an agonising five thousandths of a second, Thompson had been desperate to turn the tables in Tokyo.

But with Jamaican sprint supremo Usain Bolt watching from the stands at the National Stadium on Sunday it was the 24-year-old Seville who stood tallest.

He claimed the gold in a personal best of 9.77 seconds.

Thompson was second in 9.82 and defending world champ Lyles was third in 9.89.
