A Rock Hill man is going to prison for killing a man during a race at Lancaster Motor Speedway.

That shooting happened in August of 2022. On the night of the murder, witnesses told police Brian Mitchell shot 53-year-old Rodney Cunningham.

Mitchell went to trial on Monday and the jury convicted the 40 year old Friday of murder and possession of a firearm during commission of a violent crime.

A judge sentenced him to 35 years.
