OTTAWA — Unlike most of his caucus, he took the scenic route to Parliament Hill.

That’s how Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre kicked off his first caucus meeting ahead of the beginning of the fall session of the House of Commons on Monday, addressing MPs and senators late Sunday morning.

“All of you decided to come directly here, I took a more scenic route through eastern Alberta,” Poilievre quipped, referring to his over-the-summer scramble to regain a seat in the House after a humbling election night loss in the suburban Ottawa riding of Carleton.

“It is great to be back on the job on Parliament Hill, doing the job that Canadians need done.”
