SOUTH BEND — In addition to 16 scouts from a dozen NFL teams and five representatives from a trio of bowls (Cotton, Gator and Pop-Tarts), a pair of envoys from the Arkansas-based Broyles Award were at Notre Dame Stadium for Saturday night’s beer-soaked fireworks show.

Just seven months ago, they were glad-handing former Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden for his exemplary work in a 16-game run to the CFP national final. Golden, now back with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals , is no longer eligible for the Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top college football assistant.
