The 77th Emmy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, September 14, 2024, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. ET and is expected to last approximately three hours. Viewers can watch the event live on CBS or stream it on Paramount+.
Leading up to the main event, the Creative Arts Emmys were held last weekend, where several shows received recognition. "SNL 50" won multiple awards, including honors for production design, sound mixing, and writing. Former President Barack Obama earned an Emmy for narrating "Our Oceans," while Julie Andrews was recognized for her voice-over performance in "Bridgerton."
Among the notable winners at the Creative Arts Emmys, "The Studio" took home nine awards, including outstanding production design and outstanding casting for a comedy series. Bryan Cranston won for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series for his role in "The Studio." "Severance" followed with six wins, including outstanding cinematography and outstanding music composition. Merritt Wever won for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for her performance in the same show. "The Penguin" also secured eight Emmy awards.
This year's Emmy nominations feature strong competition, particularly in the supporting actor and actress categories for drama. "Severance" and "The White Lotus" dominate these categories, with multiple nominees from each show. Natasha Rothwell, a nominee from "The White Lotus," expressed her excitement about the friendly competition, stating, "I am just a fan of their work. And so it’s just a joy to be able to go to Hollywood prom with them and celebrate!"
Nate Bargatze will host the ceremony, bringing a unique twist to acceptance speeches. He plans to donate $100,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America, with a catch: for every second winners go over their allotted 45 seconds, the donation will decrease by $1,000. Bargatze emphasized the importance of keeping the show moving, saying, "It is very serious. The amount of money I give to the Boys and Girls Club is totally up to all of Hollywood."
Kathy Bates, nominated for her role in "Matlock," could make history as the oldest performer to win the Emmy for best actress in a drama at age 77. She has previously won two Emmys and is one award away from achieving an EGOT, having already secured an Oscar and a Tony.
This year’s most-nominated series is "Severance," with 27 nominations, followed by "The Penguin" with 24. "The Studio" and "The White Lotus" each received 23 nominations. The winners of the Creative Arts Emmys may provide insight into potential outcomes for the main event.
The red carpet pre-show will air from 7-8 p.m. ET, hosted by Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner. Fans can catch all the highlights and finish watching the ceremony on Paramount+ if they miss any part of the live broadcast.
