The abundance of walleye in Lake Superior’s Black Bay has increased “significantly” in the last 23 years, but commercial fishers still aren’t allowed to catch the sought-after species in the large bay just east of Thunder Bay.
The update is contained in a draft fisheries management plan for the Black Bay fishery being developed by Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources. The plan is evolving and input from the public is being sought in an online survey for another week.
Survey results “will assist the ministry in collecting valuable information on the public’s perception of proposed regulatory changes and future angling behaviour on Black Bay,” the ministry said.
