BEAUMONT, Texas — The great-niece of former Beaumont Mayor Robin Mouton was killed early Sunday when a driver who police say appeared to be intoxicated crashed head-on into her vehicle on Washington Boulevard.
Jasmine Batiste, 19, was traveling to pick up her son after a family night watching a fight when the crash occurred at 1:07 a.m. in the 3000 block of Washington Boulevard, according to a family member.
A 47-year-old man was charged with intoxication manslaughter following the two-vehicle collision, according to Beaumont police.
Former Mayor Mouton received a call around 1:15 a.m. requesting family members come identify the victim. She arrived at the scene Sunday morning.
Batiste leaves behind her 3-year-old son, father, and family and friends who loved her.
