CLEMSON — Amid a growing number of top Republicans asking for Clemson University to lose state funding if it doesn't fire employees who allegedly celebrated conservative activist Charlie Kirk's assassination on social media, the school's board of trustees has called an impromptu board meeting.
An agenda for the 2 p.m. Sept. 15 meeting indicates the board will receive information behind closed doors, which is legally permissible if it's about personnel or legal matters, but won't take action. The subject of the board meeting itself has not been publicly disclosed.
The move comes after days of conservatives pillorying the public institution, with growing calls to slash state support of the school that birthed the "#DefundClemson" hashtag.
