PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Portsmouth police are investigating a shooting that happened Sunday afternoon and have announced a suspect.

Police were called to the intersection of Elm Avenue and South Street about 1:43 p.m., according to a Portsmouth Police Department press release. Officers found a man with a gunshot wound, and medics took him to a hospital.

Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department Major Crime Unit have announced a suspect as Cordero Rayshawn Taylor, 38. He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting from a vehicle, and malicious shooting in the commission of a felony.

No further details are available on the investigation, police said.
