A man was shot and killed late Saturday night in a plaza in Toronto's east end. The incident occurred shortly after 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Victoria Park Avenue and Meadowacres Drive.
Police responded to reports of gunfire and discovered a man in his 40s suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel attempted to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are currently investigating the shooting. They have not confirmed how many suspects were involved, but they reported that the individuals fled the area. No weapon has been recovered as of yet.
The Homicide and Missing Persons Unit has taken over the investigation. In the early hours of Sunday, police cordoned off parts of Victoria Park Avenue between Farmcrest Drive and Consumers Road, as well as Farmcrest Drive between Meadowacres Drive and Victoria Park Avenue.
A significant police presence was noted at the plaza on Sunday morning, with officers canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage. Yellow police tape marked off a large section of the parking lot, where evidence markers were placed. A black vehicle bumper was also found in the lot and was later removed by an officer.
