For the rest of September , prospective new pet owners can adopt a dog from Multnomah County for just $25.

The county said Friday on Facebook that its dog kennels are 98% full. It was hoping to find homes for at least 50 before the end of the weekend.

“We’re asking you for help to get them adopted to make room for the other found and at-risk animals of our community,” the Facebook post says.

Regular dog adoption fees typically range from $60 to $300.

New pet owners can get discounts on cats, rabbits and other pets this month too. During the county’s back-to-school adoption special, cat adoptions cost just $15 and rabbits and other small pets will cost $5.

New pet owners also need to pay a licensing fee.
